🔥TECH NEWS #6 - “In the coming weeks, Facebook will begin to launch new consumer-focused
under the developer name ‘NPE Team, from Facebook.’ NPE Team apps will be aligned
with Facebook’s mission of giving people the power to build community but will
focus on shipping entirely new experiences. The company announced this in a blog
post where it revealed that a new team called NPE will work exclusively on
these experiences. The idea behind this move,
according to Facebook, is to try out different ideas in the form of apps rather
than launching new features directly. In the blog post, the company outlined
that “This is a way for Facebook to develop new types of experiences for people
and to try different ideas by creating small, focused apps to see
whether people find certain features useful or engaging.” The company will then
think about how to take those apps forward depending on the feedback it gets
from its users. Now since collecting data – with and without users’ consent –
has been an issue when it comes to Facebook, the social media giant has made it
clear how the new apps will work. While the company has given an explanation,
it remains clear how and when user data will be used. This is what the company
had to say, “No apps are live yet. At Facebook, we’re committed to giving
people control over their personal data and protecting privacy across our
family of apps, including future apps from the NPE Team.” Further, Facebook has
also explained what will happen to data if or when these apps are shut down.
“For future NPE Team apps, we will always seek to clearly inform people about the
use of their personal data.” Users should note that not all apps will be made
to everyone who is on Facebook. The availability, according to Facebook, will
“depend on the app.”
